Last year I happened to pick up the book The Haunted Pool, and I immediately became a Phyllis Whitney fan!  She has a way of really making her words come to life on the pages, and drawing the young-adult reader into the details of her mysteries. 

In Mystery of the Black Diamonds, brother and sister Mark and Angie try to set aside their bickering to team up and find some mysterious hidden treasure.  Asking their parents to temporarily move to the Colorado ghost town of Blossom doesn't go over well at first, but with the father being a mystery writer himself, he finally conceeds.
